7 Insurance claim
I made a list of 100 things I should do that scare me. In 2020, I plan to complete all 100.
A few months back, I got rear-ended after stopping for a pedestrian. Pedestrian was fine. My car was totaled—it was hit so hard, the radio flew out of its place.
Turns out, getting hit that hard hurts. I was in shock, but a bystander called an ambulance. No lasting injuries, but whiplash sucks.
Also turns out, if you go through all of that suffering, and the accident isn’t your fault, the insurance company of the other driver has to pay you something for your “inconvenience.”
Only trouble is, you have to go after them yourself if you want it.
I already feel uncomfortable making phone calls, so I was pretty nervous about basically calling an insurance rep to ask for money.
He was really nice and actually ended up meeting with me at my house. The nice thing was that I didn’t really have to do any negotiation; they’d already figured out most of what they needed to do, so he just laid out the numbers.
I originally had this down as a level 3, but I’m downgrading it to level 2. It wasn’t bad.
